The Iron Butterfly: Jaylalita

A shrill voice was reverberating with force and assurance in the bazaar gate.  A fair lady was standing in the pedestal amidst the gleaming lights before a huge crowd,  mesmerizing them with her best, as she had done in the silver screen for years.  That's her, Jayaram Jayalalitha, as propaganda officer of the party visiting  Vaniyambadi well before the election of 1989. The first encounter with a huge mob in between.

Still fresh was the memory of the cover of India Today, titled "The Iron Butterfly" some time in 2003.

Right or wrong, she was one of few strong administrator, the nation has witnessed, one of few brave hearts whom foes use to admire explicitly.  Secondly she knew the rules of the game  very well and played superbly to her advantage.

Now every courageous woman in a household is known as Jayalalitha....

Last respect to the departing CM
Rest in peace...

TK Rafeeq Ahmed, Vaniyambadi
